CERAMIC TILE


1. Dust Removal and Wet Cleaning
  • Remove heavy soil with a polish broom
  • Remove fine dust with a non-oily dust mop or a heavy-duty vacuum cleaner.
  • Prepare a cleaning solution as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Apply and allow the solution to stand for an adequate period to loosen the soil.
  • Machine scrub with a fibre scrubbing brush or a pad on floor machine. Do no use steel wool on hard surface flooring.
  • Remove soiled solution from the surface with a wet vacuum or wet mop.
  • Rinse with clean, warm water.
  • Rinse a second time with clean, warm water.
  • Pick up rinse water with wet vacuum, wet mop, or automatic scrubber.
  • Allow the ceramic tile floor to dry for four hours or overnight, depending on the humidity prior to traffic.

2. Sealing
  • Apply a seal coat to all natural stone products using the manufacturer's suggested method.

3. Finishing
  • To protect the seal and for ease of maintenance, apply floor finish following the manufacturer's suggested method.

Recommended Ceramic Tile Care and Maintenance
1. Daily Ceramic Tile Maintenance
  • Dust mop with a clean, non-oily dust mop.
  • Remove dust particles from the mop frequently by vacuum.
  • Damp-mop the entire floor surface using a natural (pH-7) detergent.

2. Periodic Ceramic Tile Maintenance
  • Wet mop the ceramic tile surface with a detergent or neutral cleaning solution.
  • Agitate with floor scrubbing brush or a wet mop.
  • Remove dirty cleaning solution from the floor with a wet mop. Then dampen the mop with clean, warm water.
  • Let the ceramic tile floor dry before allowing traffic.

Prior to cleaning the ceramic tile floor surface, it is imperative that the wash mop, scrubbing pad, and water be thoroughly clean and the water changed frequently.

Glazed Ceramic Tile
Sealer or floor finish is not required on this type of ceramic tile with epoxy or polymer modified grouts. Portland cement grouts may require a sealer. Follow the ceramic tile manufacturer's recommended procedures to apply a sealer to portland cement grouted glazed ceramic tile floors.

Slate, Marble, Granite, and Travertine
Follow the directions as specified in section A.1. Following the rinse, inspect the floor. If there is a mild film, use a 5% solution or phosphoric or sulphamic acid to clean the floor. Follow this by neutralizing the surface by rinsing the floor thoroughly with clean water. When the surface is dry, apply a coat of sealer or silicone impregnator following the manufacturer's recommendations.
For preventative maintenance, an entrance mat is the most basic requirement.
It is importance to follow the manufacturer's strict written instructions.

General Stain Removal
Removal methods of spots and stains vary widely. When one method fails completely, a second or third might do the job effectively. Although stains and spots are not a common problem on ceramic tile surfaces, they do at times occur. Since the identity of a particular stain is sometimes unclear, its removal may take perseverance and patience. To provide assistance in stain removal, separate data sheets are available through the manufacturer.
